Cradle to Cradle Design offers a method to bring existing materials and products to a superior level of eco-effectiveness into their design.

The assessment of existing products occurs in the context of its appropriateness as either a product of consumption (as part of the biological cycle) or a product of service (as part of the technical cycle).

The products then undergo an "ABC-X" categorization of their material components (see Services\P-lists).
