Energy Valorisation of Bio-waste is not a Substantial Contributor to
Climate Protection

The energy valorisation of bio-waste is not able to provide a substantial
contribution to climate protection. However, the professional composting
of bio-waste, which includes its separate collection and subsequent
usage for soil fertilisation and regeneration, provides a precautionary
answer to other, equally important issues, such as biodiversity, soil
fertility and soil protection against erosion and toxic inputs.
EPEA developed a compass that makes the environmental performance of
bio-waste treatment processes comparable to one another.

Damage Done to the Environment by Biofuels Exceeds the Benefits / Dramatic
Deterioration of Food Supply

In order to protect the climate, the EU Commission is planning to replace
10% of conventional fuels with biofuels by 2020. However, the savings
in terms of CO2 emissions are being bought at the expense of much higher
greenhouse gas emissions on the production side. It may take several
centuries until this is compensated for.
This and other impacts of first-generation biofuels are presented
in an assessment by EPEA and is available in the following documents:
