The Tarkett Group is a leading European manufacturer of carpet and carpet tiles for commercial and domestic applications, as well as in the hospitality, marine and aviation markets.
DESSO, part of the Tarkett Group, is also market leader in artificial turf and reinforced natural grass for sports fields. DESSO is active in 110 countries, and focuses its innovation strategy on creativity, functionality and Cradle to Cradle®. DESSO has the ambition to design all their products according the Cradle to Cradle® design criteria by 2020, and has already achieved astounding breakthroughs towards reaching this goal.
Since we spend on average more than 90% of our time inside, indoor air quality is of utmost im-portance. Under its Cradle to Cradle® commitment, DESSO aims to contribute to improved indoor air quality, resulting in better health, wellness and well-being of people.
An assessment carried out by the World Health Organization (WHO) indicates that an increasing range of adverse health effects can be linked to airborne particulate matter.* The patented technology behind DESSO AirMaster® has been specially developed to capture and retain hazardous particulate matter. **
DESSO AirMaster® is 8 times more effective in capturing and retaining fine dust than hard flooring and 4 times more effective than standard carpet solutions (PM10), making it the most effective flooring solution to capture fine dust from the air. ***

Desso has committed themselves to designing products containing only positively defined materials which are safe for human use and are biologically or technically recyclable at the end of their useful lives.
Inspired by nature’s perpetual cycles of development and rebirth, DESSO EcoBase® products are designed to be recyclable in Desso’s own production process. The yarn, Polyamide (PA), will be converted back to the basic material and can be used again to produce new yarn.
With the launch of DESSO EcoBase® Desso has achieved Cradle to Cradle® Silver Certification for car-pet tiles.
Refinity & Takeback
An important motivation for the new EcoBase® design was the desire to create a product which can be dismantled for easier re-use of its components. That is why, as part of Desso’s latest multimillion euro investment project, Desso has developed Refinity®, an innovative separation technique enabling the yarn and other fibres to be separated from the backing. This produces two material streams which can then be recycled.
Under the Cradle to Cradle® commitment, Desso has introduced a Take BackTM program where Desso collects used carpets from their clients, thus ensuring that they can be properly reprocessed. This results in a continuous technical cycle.
DESSO Take Back™ Program has received funding from the European Union.
