Since the launch of the “Building Material Scout” service platform for healthy building products a year ago, its number in the database has grown to 31,000.
The ZIA Central Real Estate Committee also acknowledges their innovative strength and includes Building Material Scout as a best practice innovation in this year's ZIA Innovation Report. The one from HOINKA GmbH and
The platform developed by Drees & Sommer provides industry players with essential information for sustainable construction projects. The ZIA report and the best practice innovations 2019 were presented at Real Estate Industry Day on June 27 in Berlin.
When it comes to sustainable and healthy buildings, the multitude of product labels, building certificates and material declarations makes it almost impossible for builders, planners and manufacturers to keep track of things and quickly find the necessary information. Regular updates to certification systems and changing requirements make the search even more difficult. As an intelligent platform for sustainable building products, Building Material Scout picks up precisely at this point. It provides all information about healthy and sustainable materials, products and certification systems in one place. Users benefit from a simple, fast and digitally structured search and the selection of suitable products for their construction project. With a continuous document station process from planner to construction company to product manufacturer, the platform is used not only for product selection but also for project documentation — currently in over 30 major construction projects.
Innovative and economical
“We are delighted to have included our platform in the ZIA Innovation Report. The award as a best practice innovation also confirms its added value and reinforces our work,” says Thomas Hoinka, managing director of Building Material Scout GmbH. In the selection for best practice innovations in the real estate industry, Building Material Scout was able to prevail over 70 other competitors. The jury's evaluation criteria included, for example, the degree of novelty of the innovation concept, the benefits for customers, the environment and society, and the profitability of the idea.
“Circular, sustainable and healthy buildings are more in demand today than ever and will also determine the future of construction. Building Material Scout supports builders, architects and planners and deserves the title of 'Best Practice Innovation, '”
says Peter Mösle, partner at Drees & Sommer SE and managing director of Building Material Scout GmbH.
Assessment service for sustainable and digital buildings
Since the platform was released last year, its users include well-known manufacturers such as the Lindner Group, GEZE GmbH, NEUFORM-Türenwerk Hans Glock GmbH and Durach GmbH. Building Material Scout provides them with a unique assessment service that evaluates and classifies building products according to the requirements for healthy and sustainable construction, such as DGNB, LEED or BREEAM standards. In this way, they keep track of the certification jungle and can obtain transparent evidence for green building projects. The existing Building Material Scout services are to be supplemented promptly with further functions such as a Building Information Modeling (BIM) application, an interface to the DGNB Navigator and other platforms, as well as further assessments, such as the Circularity Passport.
