Cradle to Cradle Certified® recognized as a Type I ecolabel according to ISO 14024

28 October 2026
Independent verification of conformity with ISO 14024 strengthens Cradle to Cradle Certified® as a credible foundation for transparent sustainability claims.

For companies, certification is becoming increasingly important, especially against the backdrop of rising requirements for environmental claims.

Cradle to Cradle Certified® has been independently verified as compliant with ISO 14024, the international standard for Type I ecolabels. This places the certification in the same category as established ecolabels such as the Blue Angel or the EU Ecolabel.

Type I ecolabels are based on transparent criteria and independent verification. Cradle to Cradle Certified® follows a comprehensive multi-criteria approach, evaluating products across various aspects.

The Cradle to Cradle Certified® Product Standard evaluates products in five categories: Material Health, Product Circularity, Clean Air & Climate Protection, Water & Soil Stewardship, and Social Fairness. The goal is not just to assess the current status; companies are encouraged to identify potential for improvement and to continuously develop their products and processes.

From sustainability promises to reliable evidence

Independent verification is also gaining importance with regard to the requirements for sustainability communication. Companies must ensure that environmental and sustainability claims are concrete, transparent, and verifiable.

Cradle to Cradle Certified® provides a structured assessment framework for this, featuring independent verification and transparent criteria.

As an accredited Assessment Body for the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute, EPEA supports companies throughout the certification process according to the Cradle to Cradle Certified® standard.
