EPEA and DGNB collaborate for greater transparency in construction product data

August 7, 2025

The German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB e.V.) and EPEA GmbH — Part of Drees & Sommer have started a cooperation to integrate the digital tool ProCA into the DGNB Navigator. The aim of the cooperation is to further simplify the provision of structured and verified construction product data for planners, auditors and manufacturers and thus to make the sustainability certification of buildings more efficient and transparent.

With the new interface, construction product manufacturers will in future be able to automate and transfer their product data to the DGNB Navigator via the EPEA tool ProCA. This makes it very easy for manufacturers to verify large quantities of construction products in accordance with the DGNB quality for healthy building products. Planners and auditors in particular benefit from this through reliable, always up-to-date construction product information, which facilitates material research and provides planning security. Both partners bring many years of experience in consulting, evaluating and verifying sustainable building products: The DGNB as the leading certification system in Germany and EPEA as a pioneer in the area of ecological construction and product evaluation according to ESG criteria and green building standards.

“With ProCA, we are creating a digital bridge between construction product manufacturers and the requirements of sustainable building certifications,” says Marcel Özer, managing director of EPEA GmbH. “Cooperation with the DGNB is an important step towards establishing structured product data with sustainability information as a standard in the construction and real estate industry. ”

One focus of the cooperation is on supporting the various players in the construction process:

  • Manufacturers can bring their products to market in a more visible way and tested by an independent body.
  • Planners and auditors have access to valid, structured product data for their certification projects.
  • Investors and project developers benefit from greater transparency and security in ESG and taxonomy compliant construction projects.

With the cooperation that has been launched, DGNB and EPEA want to further advance digitization and quality assurance in sustainable construction. Further joint measures are planned to strengthen structured product data throughout the certification process. “With consistent digital processes, processing costs can be reduced and sustainability qualities in construction projects can be increased,” says Johannes Kreissig, managing director of the DGNB.

About the German Society for Sustainable Construction (DGNB e.V.)

Founded in 2007, the DGNB is today Europe's largest network for sustainable construction with over 2,700 member organizations. The aim of the association is to promote sustainability in the construction and real estate industry and to anchor it in the awareness of the general public. With the DGNB certification system, the independent non-profit organization has developed a planning and optimization tool for evaluating sustainable buildings and districts, which helps to increase real sustainability in construction projects. The DGNB system is based on a holistic understanding of sustainability that includes the environment, people and economic efficiency in equal measure. The DGNB Academy continuing education and training platform has also already qualified more than 10,000 people in over 60 countries to become experts in sustainable construction.
