In 2011, the Austrian printing and communications company gugler succeeded, after intensive research, in producing printed products that can be safely returned to the biological cycle at the end of their product life cycle. As a result, the company received Cradle to Cradle Certified® Silver certification for its pureprint product range. All substances used in the Cradle to Cradle Certified® printing products were assessed in collaboration with EPEA. The resulting optimization efforts focused on meeting Cradle to Cradle criteria for material reutilization.
Paper is a valuable and versatile raw material, and these qualities must be preserved throughout the recycling process. When all components used in printed products are safe for the biological cycle, de-inking sludge from paper recycling is no longer considered waste but becomes a valuable nutrient resource.
