Pilot projects in Ramersdorf and Moosach

builder: Munich living

Project duration: November 2022 — June 2023

photographer: Paul Paulsen

Münchner Wohnen has selected two properties planned for demolition in Ramersdorf and Moosach as pilot projects for urban mining and has included the reusable components of the existing buildings in a component catalog. A material exchange provides roof tiles, doors, windows, but also handrails and parts of a floor structure to private individuals, architectural firms and manufacturers. In this way, the building materials are used in new projects and brought back to life.

Munich Creative Business Week 2024
On the occasion of Munich Creative Business Week 2024, the installation “Feierabendziegel” presented the topic of circular economy in public space. In a glass pop-up container, dismantled beaver tail bricks from demolition houses were shown. More than 2,000 visitors received designed bricks and ideas for reusing building materials. The project was implemented by the Drees & Sommer brand experience team together with EPEA GmbH — Part of Drees & Sommer and Münchner Wohnen.

Two awards, one milestone
The installation won two awards at the German Design Award — in the categories “Circular Design” and “Fair and Exhibition.” A strong signal for the mission of Drees & Sommer and EPEA: to combine Cradle to Cradle, urban mining and lived sustainability.
