Wolford had already been addressing topics such as material assessment and resource efficiency before entering the Cradle to Cradle Certified® certification process. In a multi-year collaboration with EPEA Switzerland, the company developed textile products in accordance with the principles of the Cradle to Cradle® design concept. Several of these products were subsequently awarded Cradle to Cradle Certified® Gold. The EPEA GmbH participated in the certification process as the Material Health Assessor.
Circular economy is an integral part of Wolford’s sustainability strategy. As a member of the “Smart Textile Industry” network, the company worked on further developing selected collections according to the principles of Cradle to Cradle® design. This included evaluating how materials could be designed to be suitable for biological or technical cycles after their useful life.
Wolford was among the early adopters of the Cradle to Cradle® design concept in the textile industry and developed products for both biological and technical cycles that achieved Cradle to Cradle Certified® Gold. (industrial composting and depolymerization)
